When Business Becomes Painful

For the last month or so I have been quietly suffering from RSI (repetitive strain injury).
So I thought I’d post this to prevent you from experiencing what I’ve been suffering with since the end of September.
If you have an online business (or are trying to start one), no doubt you use the computer more than you ever have, so it’s important you pay attention to your habits now.
It started with discomfort in my forearm, wrist and the back of my hand (especially when mousing and typing). At first I thought it was Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Fortunately it wasn’t, but RSI can be just as debilitating and cause as many problems if not addressed.
Turns out this could have been avoided with proper workstation ergonomics. I’ve always heard the word “ergonomics” and knew what it meant, but ignored it because I was not having any problems. And unfortunately most people don’t realize something is wrong UNTIL they feel the pain.
The Problem
I was typing with my hands slightly angled up while my wrists rest on the wrist pad instead of raising them so they are parallel to the floor. My posture was also very poor. This was causing strain on my forearms and hands. Ouch!
I also have a tendency to hold my pinky out and erect when typing fast, so that was also causing additional strain on my forearm. Typing fast and hard can also cause strain because you use your muscles more for speed and you have a tendency to stiffen everything up.
I was definitely the poster child for improper ergonomics and what NOT to do when typing.
Fortunately for me, my symptoms seem to be getting better thanks to improved workstation ergonomics, plenty of rest from the computer, hot and cold compresses and lots of stretching. (Epsom salt baths also work wonders!)
I feel so blessed to have a “job” that allows me to work when I want, so the rest has really helped me heal. I wanted to post this today to prevent you from going through the pain I’ve been experiencing.
Listen to your body. If you feel a slight pain or stiffening in your joints then the problem is already here, and it’s just a matter of it getting worse if you don’t correct what you’re doing wrong. Also, see your doctor for the proper diagnosis and don’t assume it will just go away.
Take care of yourselves now before you end up with a nagging injury you cannot correct later. Who cares about making a ton of money online if you’re in too much pain to enjoy it!

10 Ways to Generate Website Traffic for Beginners
You need traffic. Earning a good income requires a good product, excellent conversion strategies, and traffic to your site.
If any of those 3 elements is missing, you’re going to miss your income goals.
The one most people drool over is traffic. It’s what they lie in bed thinking about at night. How can I get more traffic?
I think the motto of most beginning online entrepreneurs is…
“Show Me How to Get Traffic!”
Today I’m going to cover the simple ways you start driving traffic to your site.
Method #1: Pay for Traffic
You can pay for your traffic. The advantage here is many of these methods are fast…and you can roll out in huge numbers. Plus you’re in full control of the results.
If it’s working…expand into more advertising.
If it’s not working, fix it until it is.
1. Run a Google Adwords Campaign
What, you don’t have a Google Adwords account?
Shame on you. Get one immediately. Even if it’s not your primary advertising method, you should still be using it to test and track your sales campaigns when you first launch.
Run some traffic to your new site and use split testing or multivariate testing to refine the sales process.

2. Expand into Other PPCs
Google is the most competitive marketplace, because it’s the one with the most traffic. You might even find the keywords you want are more expensive than you’re willing to pay.
Move into the other PPC search engines.
MSN Adcenter has an excellent system with lower bids and it can often be profitable even if your Google campaign is not.

3. Expand to Banner Advertising
Already maximized your PPC advertising? I doubt it, but we’ll assume you did.
Run banner type advertising (this includes banners, buttons, skyscrapers, and even rich media advertising). You might have heard it was dead, but its death was greatly exagerrated.
Start off your banner campaigns right inside your Google Adwords account.
Create a new “site-targeted” campaign. Everyone talks about Google’s keyword targeting and that’s where I suggest you start your advertising. Site targeting is another option they offer and allows you target ads to sites. Handpick the exact sites you want your ad to appear on.
Once you have those working, you can expand out to large advertising networks such as:

4. Send Out Press Releases
I have this under paid advertising because it’s going to cost you some money to do this correctly.

I’ve seen a single press release generate thousands of visitors…and radio and TV appearances for several of my clients. Why aren’t you using publicity?
5. Mail Postcards to Rented Lists
Target very specific groups using the SRDS manual. You can often pick up a copy of this directory at most large libraries.
It lists mailing lists you can rent and mail to. Instead of just sending a mailing to freebie seekers like you do online, you can target and mail postcards to BUYERS in your niche.
Find a list. Rent it. Mail your postcards

Method #2: Generate Free Traffic
Let’s say you don’t want to spend any money, or you don’t have any money. You can still start generating visitors for free. In fact, I like these methods more over the long term (as they often take a while to get going).
1. Submit Articles
This has been one of my favorite traffic techniques for years. Find long tail keywords (terms with 3 or 4 words in them)…and write articles about the subject.
Submit to article directories…and watch both visitors and your page rank increase.

2. Start a Blog
Start a blog…If you haven’t yet, then you’re not planning on generating much free traffic. Sure there are other ways, but why in the world would you want to make your life harder?

Now start posting good content rich articles.
3. Generate Links
You can trade links with other sites. A good program for this is Arelis at http://www.axandra.com
It’s even easier if you have a blog.

- Include links to other blogs in your posts.
- Submit to carnivals such as the ones you find at: http://www.blogcarnival.com
4. Post Viral Videos at Youtube.com
Everyone is always talking about Web 2.0. The Internet is growing up…and video is taking a priority in online marketing (if you’re not testing videos on your sales pages you’re making a huge mistake).
Create videos and post them to

It’s not a large traffic generator for me, but it is another free generator…plus it saves my own bandwidth (I embed my own Youtube videos on my pages).
5. Set-up An Affiliate Program
If you sell ANY type of product, you should have an affiliate program. It equals 60% to 75% of my sales on all my products. So if you don’t have one…you’re missing out on 2/3rds of your sales!

Newbie - error into marketing
Yes, this is a very sad thing to say, but it is true that most of affiliates usually do not make as good money as they can from their work, this is because of lack of understanding some basic problems taking care of which can be beneficial. Before telling you those important things, I want to tell you that affiliates can earn more than what they usually think, so make your thoughts clear about that and soon you will reach at the top, just believe yourself. OK, now I am telling you the points below:
1) Newbie Affiliates simply do work, nothing else:
If you start working like only you are doing this and nobody else is present to see, you can not make good money. The reason is, you don't see what other people are doing, see them how they made good money and do consider good ideas they give to you, join forums and see what others are doing. Ask your affiliate manager how much the top affiliate is making on the same offer which you are going to promote. If you think the top affiliate is not getting much, try promoting something else.
2) Affiliates promote products, not qualities:
Learn what your product is all about, find what different thing is in your product and then promote it. Try to promote something in which you take interest, the work will become easy, but do search for such product which gives you money also.
3) Keywords mistakes in advertising:
Don't act like somebody who is tied with ropes while giving keywords. For example you are going to sell a mobile and its name is my mobile, what will be the keywords for it? Yes, mobile prices, my mobile prices, my brother's mobile prices, my mobile rates, my mobile ...... anything, sorry guys I am not only fed up with this idiot kind of stuff but also I am angry with the policy you are following here. Why do you think that people always include the word mobile in the search? The word can also be my cell phone. Think broad while giving keywords.
4) Trying to promote too many products:
Its great to have more than one product at a time, but don't try to be too smart that you are not. Not only you have to promote the products to get sales, but also you have to learn the key points for all the products and for all the products you will be writing keywords. Can you manage 10 products at a time? If not, try promoting just two at one time. See how much your ability is and do according to your ability. Sometimes one product gives you more than what you were going to get from ten products at one time.
5) Don't know and don't want to know:
Sometimes your mind stops working, why don't you try keyword tools available over the internet. Manually writing keywords can be a considerable pain for one big ad campaign that you launch for your products. The thing which you will be doing is only check what are the keywords. You don't have to write them all. The example of such a tool is http://www.google.com/sktool/. It is a Search Based Keyword tool which tells you how much your keywords take from you. You can also try http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com for this, but it only works to suggest keywords without values of keywords.
6) Strategy change frequency:
You are free when to change your strategy about your ad campaign. Increase and decrease your bids whenever you want, but don't play with this frequency. Sometimes trying to be patient is good and sometimes changing your strategy can be a good turning point, but you have to use your common sense here. The problem is, if you play with this frequency like children, your business will be giving you nothing for most of the times. If you still get something while you play with this frequency, consider the advice of some austrologist, he will tell you that you are the luckiest person in the world and this post is not for the luckiest persons.
7) Not understanding stats:
Usually the affiliates do see the stats provided by their advertising program, such as Google adwords etc. but they don't give much importance to that and here they are wrong. They have to see what keywords are getting more importance and if they find any difficulty in accessing their stats, they should consider software available over the internet for that and the help which adwords and others provide to know what's going on. If you do so, you will surely be ready to explore more good things in affiliate programs.
